FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO GROW CARROT SUCCESSFULLY

  • Climate and soil requirements: Carrots grow well in cool climates with temperatures between 15°C to 20°C. They prefer well-drained, sandy loam soil with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0.
  • Seed sowing: Sow carrot seeds directly into the soil between October and February in most parts of India. The seeds should be sown 1 cm deep and spaced 2-3 cm apart. Thin the seedlings to a spacing of 5-7 cm once they have grown to a height of 3-4 cm.
  • Sunlight and watering: Carrots require full sunlight for at least 6-8 hours a day. Water the plants regularly, especially during the germination stage. Make sure the soil remains moist but not waterlogged.
  • Fertilization: Carrot plants require regular fertilization to produce healthy roots. Apply organic manure or compost at the time of planting and every month thereafter.
  • Pest and disease control: Carrots are susceptible to pests like carrot flies and diseases like fungal infections. Use organic pesticides to control these pests and diseases.
  • Thinning and weeding: Thin the plants regularly to ensure each plant has enough space to grow. Remove weeds regularly to prevent competition for nutrients.
  • Harvesting: Carrots take about 90-120 days to mature. The roots are ready for harvesting when they reach full size, have a deep color, and are firm to the touch. Carefully pull the roots out of the soil using a fork or trowel.

HOW TO GROW CUCUMBER IN GROW BAGS

In grow bags, the process is similar to growing in a home garden. Make sure the grow bags have good drainage and provide enough depth for the roots to grow. The same soil, sunlight, and watering requirements apply, but you may need to water more frequently as the soil in grow bags can dry out quickly.
