Earth Day is observed every 22 April around the world. The theme for Earth Day 2026 is “PLANT BHI PLEDGE BHI.” Organisers explain that this theme “reflects a fundamental truth: environmental progress doesn’t depend on any single administration or election.
It’s sustained by daily actions of communities, educators, workers, and families protecting where they live and work”. In other words, every person and every organisation has the power to protect the environment through everyday choices.
Our Earth Day Celebration
To honour this theme and highlight that everyone can make a difference, Urban Plant organised an Earth Day celebration at the Trends outlet in Viraj Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.
The aim went beyond giving away free plants; we wanted to ignite a lasting passion for greening our city. Here’s what made the event special:
Free Plants, But with a Purpose
We distributed hundreds of free plants to visitors. Yet the focus wasn’t just on handing out pots. Volunteers and horticulturists educated attendees about sustainable gardening, plant care, and why planting trees matters for air quality and well‑being.
Each plant came with care instructions and tips on reducing water use. Participants were reminded that nurturing even one plant helps fight urban heat and pollution in Lucknow.
Awareness & Pledge Board
To reinforce long‑term commitment, we set up a sign‑a‑pledge board where visitors could write personal pledges or quotes about protecting the Earth.
People of all ages—from children and office workers to retirees—wrote commitments like “I will choose eco‑friendly gardening practices” and “Save plants, save life.” This simple act encouraged everyone to think about their role in sustaining our planet.
Selfie Point & Responsible Event Design
Earth Day isn’t just about planting; it’s also about caring for people. We created a Selfie point. The booth also displayed signs promoting responsible waste disposal and the importance of protecting green spaces. Participants appreciated the thoughtful planning and the emphasis on safety and accessibility.
Community Participation
The event attracted a diverse crowd. Families, children, office workers, homemakers, students and everyday commuters stopped by to pick up plants and share their thoughts.
Children coloured Earth Day drawings; adults asked questions about composting and water conservation. The sense of community and shared purpose created a warm, festive atmosphere.
Many participants later shared their experiences on social media, further amplifying the message.
